Win Voodoo passes

Where Y'at magazine is giving away a pair of 3 day passes to Voodoo (closed now), and Live Music Blog is also giving away a pair of 3 day passes, along with a meet & greet with Moon Taxi and stage passes for their set.

Update (09/17/13): Here's another chance to win tickets...from Voodoo on Facebook - "Build your Voodoo path and you could win a pair of weekend credentials for the ritual! Create your Voodoo schedule, share on your Facebook and Twitter pages, and you'll be automatically entered to win. To build your Voodoo path: http://goo.gl/WJtxyw"

Update (09/24/13): Consequence of Sound is giving away VIP passes and hotel accommodations. Enter to win here, which should also help give me more entries to win. :)

Also, the Voodoo ticket office is claiming they will not be selling single day passes this year, only 3 day. I don't buy this for a second! They might wait until the week of the show, or even day of the show, but they will have single day passes available somewhere. I would stake my life on that. But you should know that this is what they are telling people over the phone, so that's the official position as of now.

Cure's backstage rider requests for Monterrey

Translation from Mural.com: "The Cure also has simple tastes. Concert organizers to give the English band in the Arena Monterrey on October 8 will have to be ready in the dressing room of Robert Smith and his companions no less than milk and Corn Flakes.

On your next visit to royal land, the group called for, among other things, chicken salad and tuna salad, vegetable soup, 12 chocolate bars, assorted pickles, olive oil and cheese bars.

To drink, the musicians want to have on hand 24 water bottles, 12 Red Bulls, 12 lemonades, juices and soft drinks V8 Dr. Pepper.

To provide, The Cure called pink champagne brand Krug, Mumm, Perrier-Jouet and Moët & Chandon, red wine and a bottle of tequila añejo." (Thanks @TheCureMexico)

The Cure play Voodoo Experience 2013!

Ticketmaster says The Cure are playing Voodoo Experience 2013, and I believe them. :) After 13 long years, The Cure finally returns to New Orleans! Welcome back! Thank you so much!
And just a reminder that this is VOODOO...in New Orleans...on Halloween weekend (though I dispute this), so a dark set? Please? I mean if The Cure are playing Voodoo they HAVE to play 'Siamese Twins', right? "Voodoo smile, Siamese Twins". Come on, Robert! :)

Update: CoS has contacted Voodoo and they have confirmed it! And yes, it is now official!

Update (Sept. 5th, 2013): The daily schedules are out, and The Cure are playing on Sunday, Nov. 3rd, from 7 - 9PM. Kid Rock right before them, and opposite How To Destroy Angels at 6:55. Not happy about that at all. And as expected, the general 3 day passes have jumped up to the $200 level now.

Help The Curse find Dean

"Can you please help us find a bass player named Dean from San Diego, California? He was involved with The Curse early on, he even went with some of us to purchase The Cure's "Trilogy" DVD at midnight when it went on sale in 2003. Unfortunately, he had to move back to San Diego before we played a show with him, but we would really like to include him in the upcoming 10 year Anniversary shows. Thanks!"
Can anyone help? If you know Dean, please ask him to contact Brian from The Curse.

Phil Anselmo's love of The Cure

From Nola.com: Did you hear that the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience has added The Cure to the line-up?
Anselmo: I saw that. I’m a big fan, man. I love The Cure.

Do you really? I didn’t think you’d be as excited as everyone else seems to be.
Anselmo: I’m an older Cure fan. “Seventeen Seconds” (from 1980) and “Faith” (from 1981) are my two favorite Cure albums. Robert Smith is just a greater songwriter, period. It’s a beautiful addition to the Voodoo Fest. Big, big thumbs-up right there.

So if you’re in town the first weekend of November, you’ll be there?
Anselmo: I might be in town, I might not. I have a gig in South America. I wish I could tell you more about it. It’s kind of like the thing I do with the Metal Masters; it’s an all-star cast. But hopefully I’m home. Because I’d love to see The Cure.

When Robert met Trent in NOLA

The last time Robert Smith & Trent Reznor were together in New Orleans (Swing Tour show 1996, with Trent, Marilyn Manson, and Clint Mansell in attendance), well, things got a bit odd. The story from Alternative Press:

"Every city in America has at least one Gothic club. In New Orleans, it's the Blue Crystal. When a band like the Cure is in town, the Blue Crystal throws a party after the show. The club called Reznor, the closest thing they have to a local dignitary, to invite him to the Cure after-show party. Further conversation revealed that the only way the Cure would show is if Reznor is there, too. You can't hear it anywhere in Nine Inch Nails, but Reznor is a Cure fan from way back. He considers the Cure's The Head On The Door" one of the best records ever." His favorite description of himself: "Robert Smith with a head cold."

"I end up going to the club, and surprisingly, everyone from the Cure is there. And the bartender calls me over and says, 'Robert really wants to talk to you.'" Reznor smiles, makes a face that says: You mean I have to meet one of my teen idols in a goth club in Louisiana? Now? In front of all these people?

"It ends up," Reznor says, "me and him, hugging on the dance floor. He's like, 'I love you, dude,' and I'm like, 'I love you too, man.'" The Cure fans formed a loose circle around the pair while New Order's "Blue Monday" pumped out of the speakers. "It was the greatest scene," Reznor says.

"We were both fairly incoherent," he feels compelled to add."

So what will happen this time? Will the bromance continue? Do we even have a goth club now? I would have no idea. No, this time, since it will still be Halloween (sort of), Trent should take Robert to The House of Shock or The Mortuary. :)
